Overview: ChorusWare integrates systems using a lightweight and agile information sharing approach based on a plug-in framework. A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technology approach with extensions is used to support both process and subprocess steps so that from a healthcare provider perspective it is a key enabler to end-to-end patient-care activities rather than simply a data or information integration environment.

Connectivity to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) ad other information systems is established through either published vendor APIs, or by leveraging other standards based interfaces such as HL7, and is accomplished without the need for a data repository.  Healthcare networks continue to retain ownership of their data without being forced into a single vendor relationship.

Challenges/Pain: Healthcare providers are unable to manage their information needs in an easy and efficient manner. The underlying information systems are often hindered by incompatible languages, data types and protocols. This lack of information access and exchange has contributed to the 98,000 Americans who have died from inpatient medical errors due to a lack of accurate clinical data.

Moreover, escalating healthcare costs (totaling $1.9T in 2005), an aging population, growing technology drivers and government mandates demand radical change to the business of healthcare. Consequently, healthcare is today where supply chain management was 20 years ago.
